FRANKFURT - March 2008
Thank you to all who managed to visit our stand at Frankfurt Musikmesse this year, there was much interest in our protype new EQ unit and the new CX4 Mk III.
New products in development were also discussed with a number of visitors and many useful comments about features and layout were made which will help us refine those designs (Headphone distribution unit and a Scratch mixer).
Anyone wishing to comment on our products can email info@formula-sound.co.uk, we take all comment on our products very seriously.
We continue to believe in designing and manufacturing audio equipment that is of the highest quality.
ZMR 80 Modular Zoner
The ZMR 80 modular Zoner launched at PLASA last year has proven a hit with installers around the world.
The flexability of being modular together with the features included make it one Zoner for many situations.
The input module will accept mono, stereo or balanced stereo inputs. The output module is balanced stereo. With up to 8 inputs and up to 12 outputs (Zones)with option of remote panels for control within the Zone this Zoner will suit most venues.
Formula Sound - Hearing is believing
Based in Stockport we continue designing and building our products here in the UK to the highest standards we can achieve.
We design our products for high quality audio, we continue to use analogue signal processing because the audio quality is better, and while we use some control circuits that are digital the signal chain always remains analogue.
Our PCB designs continue to be based on through hole assembly and the high reliability this brings, and we continue to use high quality components such as gold plated phono's, Neutrik XLR's and ALP's faders.
But do not take our word for it, listen to a piece of Formula Sound equipment because hearing is believing. The major London musicals and many major clubs throughout the UK and all over the world use Formula Sound equipment because they believe in the sound quality.
Our two newest products the ZMR80 modular zoner and the FSM8PLUS both demonstrate our commitment to the highest quality audio.
The ZMR 80 is a modular zoner, each module comprising either two stereo inputs or two stereo outputs (zones). The chassis will take up to 10 modules, of which up to 4 may be double inputs and up to 6 may be double outputs.
With 2 stereo channels per module this allows up to 8 inputs and up to 12 outputs (zones),for example a 6 input and 6 output configuration would require 3 input module and 3 output module. Unused slots are fitted with blanking plates, additional modules can easily be fitted later up to the maximum allowable.
Each output (zone) can be controlled at the front panel or via a remote panel, there is also a paging facility.
The FSM8PLUS is a new version of the FSM8, as the name suggests it is the FSM8 plus additional features.
The additions include channels 5 and 6 switchable from line to Mic, front panel connectors for channel 1 Mic and Channel 7 which when used override the corresponding rear panel connections, aux/monitor facility, headphone output on the front panel, on the rear an aux output and sub bass output.

Controlling Music Levels - Sentry and AT-1
Formula Sound offers a range of products to control music levels without affecting the music quality. There are two approaches to controlling music levels – one is to cut the power to the music source and the other is to attenuate the music. In a fixed installation it is possible to install a unit such as the AVC2 to control the level. But in a venue where visiting bands or DJs are bringing in their own equipment this is not possible due to calibration issues. Up to now the only option was the cut off approach. But with the introduction of the AT-1 visiting DJs need never be cut off again. Used in conjunction with the Sentry, the AT-1 acts as a volume control (not limiter or compressor) keeping the music within the set limit without affecting the quality of the music. As more than one AT-1 can be connected to the Sentry it is possible to connect one to the house system and have a second one available for visiting bands to connect to. (If they do not connect to the AT-1 the Sentry will cut off if levels are exceeded.
